4 Things You Need For Going Green

If you want to go green, there are a few things you’ll need. Cutting down your carbon footprint is a necessary process, if you want to help the environment. However, it’s unlikely you already have everything you need around the house. So, consider the following for enhancing your green lifestyle.

1. Replace Your Light Bulbs

One of the simplest things you can do is replace the light bulbs in your home. If you have older bulbs, keep in mind that they pull a lot more power than the newer compact fluorescent light bulbs, and on top of that, they simply don’t last as long. So, when you replace your current bulbs with these long-lasting new ones, you’re saving yourself money in the long run, and you’re also cutting down on the amount of energy you use. It may surprise you how much your power bill goes down simply by doing this one thing.

2. Add Solar Panels

If you really want to make a difference in your power bill, add a solar panel or two to your home. These panels cost a lot up front, but they’re going to save you tons in the long run. In fact, many people who have solar panels on their homes are able to completely power their homes, and even have extra energy to sell back to the grid. This means that you can actually profit with a solar panel. Usually selling back to the grid means a credit on your power bill for those times that you need a little extra boost, but that’s up to you and the power company to figure out.

3. Buy a Hybrid

Your car is a gas guzzler and you know it. If you’ve been thinking about getting a new car anyway, it’s time to upgrade to a Ford hybrid. These cars can get over 40 miles per gallon, cutting down your carbon footprint by leaps and bounds. Hybrids also offer a variety of features and benefits that you’ll love, from cruise control to Bluetooth capabilities. Consider setting up a carpool with your coworkers to help the environment even more.

4. Plant a Garden

Do you have some extra space in your yard? Plant a garden. This is one of the best things you can do for your health and for the environment. When you plant a garden, you have control over the fruits and vegetables you grow and eat out of it. This means that you don’t have to deal with pesticides and all of the other toxins that go into many of the foods you find in the grocery store. On top of this, you won’t have to expend the extra gas to run to the grocery store when you need a tomato for lunch.

With a little bit of effort, you can change your lifestyle. Going green is more than just a fad. It’s something you should stick to if you start. On top of all of the steps you can take to go green, there are a number of cell phone apps that can help you further your green pursuits, as well.
