Eat Well, Sleep Well

I have been doing a lot more exercise recently. This is coupled with a post-Christmas effort to stop being so greedy in order to lose weight as the January weigh-in showed that I had most definitely achieved maximum density. So far, so good – I feel better and I can zip up my jeans comfortably again. I am still craving chocolate, but hey – I am pretty sure that is genetic…

This healthy regime has been embraced by a couple of friends of mine as well, and I have to say that one of the best by-products is that when we fall into our beds at night we are all sleeping a lot more soundly. Whether we are just absolutely shattered from all the extra physical activity or if it also has something to do with a more balanced diet I don’t know – it is probably a bit of both. Either way, it is welcome having spent several years dozing with one foot hanging out of the side of the bed ready to leap out and settle a baby or small child in the middle of the night.

In our house I also think changing our mattresses has got something to do with it. We have invested in memory foam and it is just so comfortable, I can’t wait to get into bed at night and have been sneaking upstairs earlier and earlier armed with a good book. This could of course just be a sign of old age… I don’t want to think about that too closely. Whatever the reason I am glad to be sleeping well and living a healthier lifestyle.

Food-wise I have been choosing organic produce wherever possible and visiting the local farm shop for meat more often. The taste is better, things last longer and I feel as though I am contributing to the local business economy and supporting the food producers in the area. Happily, the whole family is on board with this change of shopping habits and my healthy cooking is going down well so far – let’s see how long we can keep it up!
